Peace and Security

Promoting the conditions of security and public safety in local communities is indispensable to the success of any effort towards unleashing the growth potentials and the natural energy for self-development of the poor. Incessant threats to the security of lives and pervasive fear of violence (whether from crime or conflict) inhibit the will and capacity of local communities to engage in their normal economic activities, and further drives them to extreme poverty and despair.

The goal of this programme area is to promote the conditions of peace and security in local communities, particularly where the state, as the constitutional provider of security and safety, is absent, distant or negligent. The sub-programme areas are:

  • Community Safety
    • Strengthening local community safety initiatives through capacity building and aligning their practices with international human rights standards.
    • Building and enhancing synergy between the relevant state security systems and community safety initiatives.
